Maserati has a lot of work to do now, for sure, because they have to become the spearhead of Fiat-Chrysler Alliance (FCA) since the Ferrari has left the table. No, they don’t work for the Cavalino Rampante, not anymore, and the cost is that they have to work harder and focus on their sports car line-up. The good news is that Maserati will be ready to bring the concept car, Alfieri to the mass production. This of course will become a new model and surely will enrich the Maserati Line-up.
Davide Danesin, Maserati Engineer confirms the plan to the public that they will make a new version of GranTurismo along with a new sports car based on Alfieri. You will see both of the Maserati’s new car at least in 2018. For now they are focusing on their new platform for the Alfieri since they will not use the available platform.
“Today the architecture is shared between Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante,” Danesin said. “With the Alfieri we think we need to make another step on the architecture so we’re going to arrive at another more sporty architecture, with some common basis [with Ghibli] but with development from there.” www.drive.com.au
One of the modification on the new platform is that they will advance the front wheel position so that the hood becomes long. Since the twin is a sports car, it has to be lightweight, It should have a low center point and engine mounting should be as low as possible.
They will be focusing on the coupe version of the GranTurismo. The interesting part, however, is that they will change the name from Alfieri become GrandSport when it is ready to be sold.
This twin will definitely challenge Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type and other sports car in its class. Meanwhile, they will install a V6 on the GrandSport and a V8 on the GranTurismo. The car will be a 2+2 seater with a rear wheel drive.
